MA English

M.A English is a two year long post graduate course which offers an in depth understanding of the history, growth and bifurcation of literature into varied branches. The course runs through four semesters during which they learn literary movements, criticism, linguistics, literary theory, drama, fiction, poetry and so on. The final semester includes elective papers namely Literature and the Empire, Dalit studies, Modern European Fiction, Modern European Drama and English Language Teaching. The dissertation which the final semester students prepare also gives them good training in academic writing and research work.

The course moulds the students well to teach and to communicate fluently. An extension programme is annually conducted for the M.A students during which they teach the degree students. A research journal named Lux Montis is issued by GIAL which offers a platform for the M.A students to publish their scholarly papers. Besides, certified paper presentations are conducted to enhance their confidence.

The students can pursue M.Phil or PHD after qualifying M.A English. The conventional pedagogical course B.Ed is yet another option. From the third semester onwards they can appear for National Eligibility Test (NET).
